Irondale Basketball Association

This program is for first and second grade students in the Irondale High School attendance area. The program is designed to introduce players to the game of basketball.

General Information: The Little Knights program runs from November – January. The cost is $95 per player. Practices are held once per week on a week night, in local area gyms. There is one game each Saturday, typically in the morning or early afternoon. Teams are volunteer parent coached.

Eligibility: All students who attend schools in the Irondale High School attendance area are welcome. Students who are open-enrolled in our school district are also invited to play. Enrollment is limited to boys and girls in grades 1 and 2*.

Registration Procedure/Fees: Please register online. The registration fee for the Little Knights Program is $95.00 (maximum $250.00 per family).  REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETED BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2010. Registrations received after September 30 will be placed on a waiting list for future consideration as team space permits. Confidential financial assistance is available for those players who demonstrate financial need.

Team Formation/Notification: Teams will be formed by gender. Teams will be comprised of an equitable number of 1st and 2nd grade students. Players will be notified by their coach by late-October. In the interest of offering a fair program for all players, the IBA appreciates you NOT requesting special consideration with regard to teams, coaches and teammates. Your understanding in this regard is appreciated. Whenever possible, teams are formed by school attendance areas to facilitate carpooling.

Coaches: The IBA is dependent on volunteer coaches. Team rosters and coaching information are handed out at this meeting. In addition, a Coaching Clinic is offered by the IBA. Coaching staff will learn drills and skills at this clinic. The Coaching Clinic date will be in October.

Practice/Game Schedule: Teams can expect to practice one time per week for one. Practice days are usually Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. Teams will usually play one game per week on Saturdays. The Little Knights program is in a league with other neighboring 1st and 2nd grade programs, in order to provide some great experience and fun for all the kids involved. Practices begin in November with the game schedule beginning in mid November and continuing through January.
