Instructional Program

3rd-8th Grade

General Information: The IBA In-House program is an instructional program designed to teach basketball skills and sportsmanship. The Instructional program is less intense, less time consuming and less competitive than the Competitive Program. Instructional teams are primarily comprised of students from one school’s attendance area.

Eligibility: All students who attend schools in the Irondale High School attendance area are welcome to play in IBA Instructional sponsored programs. Students who are open-enrolled in our school district are also invited to play. Enrollment is limited to boys and girls in grades 3rd-8th. Players must agree to abide by the Minnesota State High School League’s rules regarding: Mood-Altering Chemicals.

Registration Procedure/Fees: Please register online. The registration fee for the Instructional Program is $160.00.

REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETED BY SEPTEMBER 9, 2023. Registrations received after September 9th will be placed on a waiting list for future consideration as team space permits. Confidential financial assistance is available for those players who demonstrate financial need.

Team Formation/Notification: Teams will be formed by gender. Teams are formed at the 3rd-4th grade level, the 5th-6th grade level, and the 7th-8th grade level. An equitable number of players of each grade will be placed on each team. Players will be notified by their coach by late October. In the interest of offering a fair program for all players, the IBA appreciates you NOT requesting special consideration with regard to teams, coaches and teammates. Your understanding in this regard is appreciated. Whenever possible, teams are formed by school attendance areas to facilitate carpooling; HOWEVER, our primary objective must be to form fair and functioning teams.

Coaches: The IBA is dependent on volunteer coaches. Team rosters and coaching information are handed out at the Coaches' meeting. The Coaches' meeting date will be in October.

Practice/Game Schedule: Teams can expect to practice one time per week on a weeknight. Practices will go for one and one-half hours per session. Teams will usually play one game per week on Saturdays. Practices begin in late October with the game schedule beginning in November and continuing through late February.

Year-end Tournament: Boys and Girls teams at the 5th - 8th grade levels will be involved in a year-end tournament in late February.
